“Here, There and Everywhere”

Just because I’m immobile for the most part doesn’t mean that we don’t go anywhere or do anything, it just means that we don’t really want to go anywhere and do anything – unless it might be really cool.  We stayed pretty close to home before my stroke but we’re BIG TIME homebodies nowadays.  We used to love going out to eat but we don’t go anymore because restaurants kinda frown at us when we fire up our very loud blender that purees my food!  However, we have managed to get out some in the past seven years for various reasons:

Fox Theater
Larry the Cable Guy – Because everyone enjoys a little toilet humor from time to time.
Bill Cosby – I think he’s the best stand-up (who now uses an easy chair) comedian of all time.  He makes me laugh even when he’s not trying to be funny.
Jerry Seinfeld – The second best comic of all time.  I’m glad he went back to doing stand-up.  Rhetorical question:  What’s the difference between a comic and a comedian?  Beats me.
America’s Got Talent Tour – Don’t laugh, I happen to like Michael Grimm’s music – and Prince Poppycock is hilarious.  I had a feeling the show might be kinda cheesy when Jerry Springer came out and introduced himself as the host.

Family Arena
B. B. King (twice) – Eighty-something years old and going strong.  I’ve never heard a 25-minute jam session about Viagra before.
Buddy Guy – I don’t know if he was awesome or our front row seats were awesome, I think they both were.

Riverport
Jimmy Buffett (twice) – The first time we saw him was just a few years ago.  I think that if you’ve never been to a Jimmy Buffett concert, you’re missing out on a really good time.

The Pageant
Willie Nelson (twice) – Speaking of old, I wanted to see him before he got too old to tour (or worse) but he kept pulling the Energizer Bunny, I just gave up!

Harrah’s
The Robert Cray Band – I can’t remember if we saw him before or after my stroke, either way – he’s my favorite musician.
Ray Charles impersonator – he was great – even better than the original, who smells bad and is really quiet.

Ameristar
Beatles tribute band – They were pretty good but I don’t think “Ringo” was even a white guy.

Movies
I love movies, so does Jen, we’ve probably been 10-15 times.

The Good – Benjamin Buttons, Slumdog Millionaire (‘Who wants to be a millon-air?!’), Life of Pi (awesome 3D movie)
The Bad – Inception (I don’t even think the director knew what the hell was going on), The Incredible Hulk (Wow, that was stupid.  But any movie starring Edward Norton is supposed to be good.)
The Ugly – Some terrible movie I dragged my sister to.  Jen wisely passed on the movie and went shopping.  Plot synopsis:  Twenty-somethings vacationing near Chernobyl for some reason are terrorized by radioactive bears and other creatures.  This movie was so ridiculously bad that I forgot the name.
There were other movies in this category but I’d rather not talk about them!

West Frankfort, IL
We’ve taken several trips over to Jen’s hometown to visit her family.  (It’d be wise of me not to try and make a funny at this point.)

Busch Stadium
Two Cardinals games:  The first one was OK, but not great.  We had seats up in the nosebleeds and there was a railing right in front of me, it was very tough to follow the game.  We either won or lost – not sure.  The second game was much, much better.  Someone gave us their seats and they were very good.  They were so good in fact that a pop foul headed towards my…  ahem…  “legs”.  I was spared some substantial pain when the guy next to us leaned across my lap and snatched the ball at the last second.

Pensacola, FL
We drove down there to visit Jen’s grandparents, aunt and uncle and stayed in this awesome beachfront condo.  We looked like the Beverly Hillbillies driving down there because we had to lug along all my crap – including my recliner!  We don’t exactly travel light.  That’s probably why we rarely go places.

Lake of the Ozarks
We’ve been there twice and stayed in the same condo – we just love it.  It overlooks the lake and the State Park.  We’ll definitely be going back – it’s a heck of a lot closer than Florida and it even has its own recliner!

5,216 miscellaneous errands…
…including trips to the grocery store, Walgreen’s, Wal-Mart, Costco, gas station, bank, my parents’ house, Barnes St. Peters ICU, doctor’s office, etc., etc…
I’m really just kidding about having to run so many errands.  We’re lucky I can go at all.

As I look over this (rather lengthy) post, it seems like we do a lot of stuff and we constantly “go, go, go” but then I remember that all of these things were spread out over the last SEVEN YEARS.  We both really like our house and neighborhood, it’s a good thing because we pretty much just “stay, stay, stay”.  Many times we don’t even leave the house for 3-4 days, but like I said before – we’re fortunate we can “go” at all.

    HI JIm

agree agree agree on Bill Cosby being the best – he is funny and I think a genuine awesome dude. Love the reruns of the show that played so long – he has Dr Huxabel, very entertaining series. I think your dad is a big fan too. I remember being at your house when we were kids and the grownups listening to an album of his comedy routine. Hugs cuz
